Guess what? The Open Season trailer is on line! It was in front of some of the showings of Madagascar, but not all of them. So if you missed it in the theater then check it out here:
I worked on 3 shots in the trailer. I did that shot when you see the angry squirrel for the first time. I'm kinda embarrassed by that shot. They re-did the voice after it was done with lighting the new voice doesn't match up at all (at least not in my opinion). Not just the lipsink but his acting too. It was out of my controll, I couldn't go back in and fix it (not that I had time to do that anyway). I also helped out with all the animals in the end. I also did the two squirrels running on the tree branch as the camera pulls out of that big crowd shot, which you'll never see if I didn't point it out to you (motion blur city).
Ben Catmull did the shot with the 3 angry animals and the chainsaw. He also did the hunter getting hit on the head with the pinecone. He did a great job with those his shots! Also Jayson Price did the shot with the angry squirrel in the title card. His shot turned out really well despite the re-dubbing of his voice. Jayson's posing are really great to look at!
Right on! I dunno, that squirrel shot didn't look embarrassing to me. Nice strong poses and all that. What was the original dialogue, was it really different?
The chainsaw beaver is awesome. He's got show-stealer written all over him. I hope he figures prominently in the movie! Also, I really really love the character designs, especially those bunnies. Yeah!
Thanks Cassidy that's good to hear. I think I'm just too close to that original voice and the change throws me off. The dialogue of the shot didn't change it was just a different read by a different person. He's supposed to be Scottish squirrel. The original read was by a Welsh "temp track" actor. They used him because they thought he sounded Scottish (don't ask me why, I don't get to make these decisions) when they got the Scottish actor to do the line they changed it.
